While liners are not always a
necessary addition to a cloth nappy, there are some advantages to having them
on hand.
If you use any type of
nappy rash or barrier cream, it will never completely wash out of your modern
cloth nappy. Instead, it will coat the fabric, creating an oily barrier which
repels urine and causes the nappy to leak. This is especially true if your
baby’s rash is so bad it requires a pharmacy-bought nappy rash cream.
Using a liner will prevent the rash cream from coating your nappy. For double protection, use a fleece liner underneath a disposable liner. Even if you do not habitually
put cream on your baby’s bottom, it is worth having liners available just in
case.
As an added bonus, a liner inside a nappy acts as a
moisture barrier that wicks urine away from your baby's bottom and helps any
rash to heal more quickly. This is particularly important in nappies that don't have a built-in stay-dry layer.
Liners also make using a modern
cloth nappy more convenient, as they can allow moisture to pass through, while
trapping faeces in the liner and preventing the nappy from staining.
Our biodegradable liners can even be flushed away into most modern drains, so no more nasty messes
to dispose of! You can throw wet liners in the bin or compost and soiled ones down the
loo.
They
are made to fit perfectly into our bamboo nappies and are made from cornstarch
PLA (Polylactide) – derived from lactic acid and 100 per cent compostable.*
Liners are particularly recommended for night time, to keep moisture away from your baby's skin, preventing nappy rash, and helping baby (and you) sleep soundly.
