Giveaway Time

It's giveaway time again at Close Parent Down Under and because it's spring, this giveaway is going to be all about organising.

Tell us how you organise any particular aspect of your home... ie, the recipe box, the toy room, wardrobe, pantry, study, filing, photos, clothes that the kids have outgrown, shopping lists... and go in the draw to win one of five Pop-In Originals.

Entries close Monday 20th September at 5pm. Please post your answers below. Winners will be guest judged on Tuesday 21st based on creativity and practicality :)

  1. I organize my nappies ;D
by brand / type, fabric & then color..
    All piles of 5 haha

I organize my books via goodreads.com (in: read, to read & currently reading)

The rest in the house is pretty disorganized.. neatly cluttered ;) haha

  2. I organise my shopping list by the aisles at our supermarket. I have memorised the aisles and write a list as to what I will get from Aisle to aisle. It makes it so much easier then flicking through the list at every aisle. I know what I need from aisle 6, 7 and 8. I'm in and out in no time.

  3. Up until yesterday my mcn's were all over the place. They were all crammed into the second shelf of the change table and when I wanted a specific nappy for an outfit I would have to pull them all out and then cram them back in again. Yesterday I noticed an unused set of woven cane drawers in our garage and put them to use. I pulled the draws out, lined them with material and then neatly put the mcn's in vertically so I can see the colours instantly and they have their own little place. It also saves them from being dragged around the house by my daughter.

Turning something of no value into something with value - that's my kind of organising.

  4. With a busy house full of (rather independent) boys who generally want you to "let me do it MYSELF" things tend to function in 'box/basket fulls' or racks (towels, jackets and hats etc).
    1. easily located
    2. you can put a lid on it and the mess will 'disappear'
    3. within their reach to find AND put away
    4. whatever is in there they are allowed to have and can use/put it on independently.

for example toy box -indoor and outdoor, BOOT box - gumboots, riding boots and crocks, clear clothing/hand-me-down storage boxes - by size and season.

  5. Since I was in primary school I've organised my books- fiction by author and non-fiction by category (not quite Dewey, but mainly because I've never sat down and worked out their numbers). Picture books are in the nursery, junior and senior fiction in the lounge room and non-fiction in the study. I've put in a request for a room designated as the library in our next house :-)

DVDs are sorted into kids' and 15+ (a number of PG make it into this group), and all by title. CDs are sorted by artist or compilation title.

I love it because it means we can locate one book/DVD/CD from the hundreds available in about 10 seconds. It also makes for easy perusing by friends wanting to borrow "something".

  6. While most things in my house have a logical home, I can't say things are necessarily organised. However, I usually know where everything is- if I've seen it or put it there myself. The issue now is that my 2 and 4 year olds both have their own individual perspectives on household organisation, and tend to 'collect' things in their 'special draws' (a draw specifically for their own special things, that inevitably accumulates MY special things). So if something is not where I know it should be, it'll be in one of the kid's draws. I can live with that!

  7. Wardrobe - shirts together, skirts together, hubby's suits together, his shirts together, pants together. On a good week I sort them in colour order.

Pantry - I have all shelves labelled - although the kids don't always put things in the right places.

Linen cupboard - bath mats together, bath towels together, hand towels together, face washers together, flat cotton sheets, fitted cotton sheets, flat flannelette sheets, fitted flannelette sheets, pillowcases; shelves labelled - again don't always get put in the right places but we try!

  8. I organize miss 3's wardrobe as follows;

    Current size season
    Next season
Future sizes/seasons. Yes I cannot go past a bargain which has seen me buy for 2 years away lol

For both miss 3 when she wad in nappies and now master 8 months, I organize their mcn's by brand and I also like to try and co-ordinate with the outfit they were/will be wearing.

Pantry, you should see the well organised and piled high tins of spaghetti and baked beans lol (hubby does shift work and he has these for breakfast when on night work).

Miss 3 organizes her table at meal times in a particular way. If you put her drink anywhere but top right corner she gets most annoyed and moves it :D her daddy says she is anal and gets it from me....

I have heard of people organizing their washing on the line by always putting the same colored pegs together! I Don't really have time for that as I have to be quick before the green ants climb aboard an start biting me!!! Eeek!

    Organised or anal? Hmmmmm.

My "analness" comes out in my organisation of my music-I'm a musician that plays at many functions etc so all my music is cataloged in separate folders depending on the type of piece ie: Pop, classical, Jazz etc then each song is numbered and then I put the song title, category, which folder it's in, what type of ensemble it's arranged for, what number it is into my computer!
I have all my MCNs organised by make and then in colours-so all the greens together then blues etc! Then each make of nappy is in a different drawer in my sons wardrobe.

  10. I've found some awesome storage for the kids toys and I LOVE it cos everything has it's place - and thankfully my 2 year old is really good at getting only one box out at a time and putting things away before he gets something else out (I trained him well haha).

In our lounge we have 5 woven baskets. I love them cos they stay out all the time and look 'adult'! We have books, train track, baby toys, blocks and cars.

Then in the dining room, we have a big white cupboard, the type you get from Bunnings. I have 8 cube plastic boxes inside it, with toys\stationary sorted by category - the art and craft boxes are up the top so only I can get them. We have things like puzzles, musical instruments, little people, animals, action toys etc.

They have some toys in their rooms too. We have lots of different shelves and boxes for books in different rooms around the house, which means they're easily accessible.

I love how it's so easy to know where everything goes, and so thankful that my boy has picked up on how nice it is to be organised and tidy!!
